Chic Gamine are a Canadian band that 'embody the 60's girl-group vibe', with 'wall-of-sound harmonies, hip shaking beats' and a twist of 'French pop'. The band formed in 2007, when singers Ariane Jean, Andrina Turenne and Annick Bremault decided to include drummer Sacha Daoud and singer Alexa Dirks in their new project, with the band recording a demo and then touring North America, which included opening for Smokey Robinson and performing in the same lineup a Mavis Staples. Their debut album, Chic Gamine (2009), won the Juno Award for Best Roots Album in 2009, and their sophomore album, City City (2010), was nominated for a Best Roots Album Juno in 2010, a year in which they also performed at the Vancouver Olympic Games. They spent 2011 touring U.S. and Canadian music festivals, as well as touring with Marc Broussard, and are now set to play at SXSW this year as well as releasing their U.S debut 'Closer' on March 5th (March 26th for physical CD). Here they sing 'Closer' from the album 'City City'.
