21-year-old Jacob Banks, from Birmingham, U.K., is a singer/songwriter who describes himself 'as a soul singer, first; and I like to be real with my music, I like to say...to tell a certain story...to paint a certain picture...I want to carry people along with me on my journey'. He says that as an artist he is 'pretty soulful', with his influences including the likes of Anita Baker, Al Green, Sam Cooke, John Mayer, Adele and Plan B. An Engineering degree graduate, he only began singing in 2011, but his passion and natural aptitude for music saw him win a songwriting competition that allowed him to create a track along with the U.K. star Plan B, as well as also featuring in an advertisement campaign with the star. He went on to win the MOBO UnSung competition, and later became one of the BBC Radio 1Xtra 'Hot Ten for 2013'. In January, he released his debut EP 'The Monologue', saying that 'I hope when...you hear my EP you take something away from it, I don't want my EP to just exist, I want it to live with you and for it to help you in whatever little way it may do so, there is a message in each song...' Here he sings 'Kids On The Corner' from the EP, and, below, he gives a soulful rendition of 'Let's Get It On' by Marvin Gaye, courtesy of Reload Sessions.
