It was another amazing night for Sol Village at SOBs with YouKnowIGotSoul! Artists India Shawn, CharlieRed, Jade Alston, Brianna Colette, & Nikko Sherard had a wonderful show last night. Here's a recap of the first Sol Village showcase of 2013.
First up was Jade Alston who represented for the city of Philly. Jade started off with a an A Cappella rendition of Rihanna's Diamonds which caught the attention of the audience. She performed tracks off of her EP Single on a Saturday Night. Jade Alston infuses R&B and Rap musically while lyrically and women can relate. Many were shocked by vocals which are compared to Toni Braxton..Can't go wrong with that.
Brianna Colette captured the audience with her beautiful animated voice and funky style. A crowd favorite was her song "Too Old" where she sings of a love interest being way too old for her liking. Brianna Colette has amazing stage present that kept show goers attentive and wanting to hear more.
Next up was Nikko Sherard. Nikko's soulful voice is very powerful, reminiscent of Jackie Wilson and Marvin Gaye. Nikko is passionate singer and performer which helps conveys what he's singing about. I knew it would be a great set when opened with Michael Jackson's The Way You Make Me Feel, A Cappella!
CharlieRed was definitely the life of the party! An infusion of Rock, Blues and R&B, Charlie gives an energetic performance. The lead singer Rocki Evans' gritty and soulful voice kept the crowd's head nodding performing singles from their EP Religion. Recently CharlieRed's single Kansas was featured on VH1's Love & Hip Hop, which was another crowd favorite.
Ending the show was the beautiful and very much talented India Shawn. She dropped her debut EP Origin in November and has created quite a buzz for herself. She sounds amazing live and kept the audience intrigued with her music. India Shawn performed tracks from the EP, to name a couple, I'm Alive and All I Have.
As always, Eric Roberson was a great host and The Collective Band sounded dope. Also a special Thank You to some special guests, song-writer Claude Kelly and R&B Singers Estelle and Melanie Fiona for coming out to support good music.
