U.K. singer/songwriter and vocal powerhouse Alice Russell has been influenced by the likes of Nina Simone, Donny Hathaway, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin and Chaka Khan and describes her music as 'predominantly soul music because of my voice, and the emotional side of that side of things, but it is kind of like raw elecrto-souly style, I'd say'. Growing up in a household full of music saw her develop a love of funk, soul and gospel music, with this being reflected in various ways throughout her early releases on Tru Thoughts and her own label Little Poppet, including Under the Munka Moon (2004), My Favourite Letters (2005) and Pot Of Gold (2008). As well as touring the world, including appearances at SXSW, she also collaborated with Quantic (Will Holland) on the album Look Around The Corner, which was released earlier this year, and recently released the single 'Heartbreaker' from 2013's upcoming album 'To Dust'. Here she shows off her amazing vocals with a cover of Cee-Lo Green's 'Crazy', and, below, a live version of her single 'Heartbreaker'.
