Canadian singer/songwriter Ben Stevenson states 'I don't know anyone who doesn't like soul music', and his soulful vocals are sure to win over those who may not. He had his musical beginnings in the Edmonton punk band Our Mercury , saying 'we started when I was 13, and I was in the same band until I was 26, and by the end of that we were playing a lot of soul tunes, doing some more reggae-minded stuff, and just kind of exploring that world, you know, the sort of more rhythmic soulful music'. After heading off on his own, that was the direction 'where I was going, that was what I was listening to, listening to tons of old soul music, lots of old gospel records', and after moving to Toronto in 2008 he formed the group Ben Stevenson and The Wondertones, with the group playing a 'variety of soul music, I'd call it, sort of a throwback sound, the sounds of the '60's, I guess, early '70's'. Currently working on his debut project, here are recently released visuals for his acoustic performance of 'Left You Behind', and, below, courtesy of Wood & Wires, is another acoustic sampling of his work.
